Major Oil and Gas Reserves Found in Kohat’s Nashpa Block

Significant oil and gas reserves have been discovered in the Nashpa block of Kohat district, officials informed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday. The discovery is expected to produce 4,100 barrels of oil per day, strengthening Pakistan’s domestic energy supply.

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) briefed the Prime Minister during a Petroleum Division meeting. Officials said the discovery marks an important step for the oil and gas sector in Kohat and across the country.

Authorities presented a detailed roadmap for exploration, production, and infrastructure development in the petroleum sector. They highlighted that domestic consumers are experiencing improved gas pressure this winter, thanks to better supply management and ongoing upgrades.

Work on RLNG connections is underway, with a goal of completing 350,000 new connections by June 2026. Pipelines for the Shiva and Batani Gas Fields have been commissioned, and construction continues on the Kot Palak Gas Field pipeline, further enhancing energy distribution in Kohat and nearby areas.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on the discovery in the Nashpa block. He praised OGDCL and other institutions for their efforts to expand domestic energy production. He emphasized that finding and developing new oil and gas reserves should remain a national priority.

The Prime Minister also stressed that increasing local production would help reduce imports of petroleum products, saving valuable foreign exchange. He directed the digitization of the entire oil and gas supply chain, from import to consumer, to prevent smuggling and increase revenue for the national treasury.
