Aerial Firing on New Year

New Year’s Eve celebrations in Karachi took a dangerous turn. Stray bullets injured at least 28 people across the city. The victims included women and children. This happened as celebratory gunfire rang out to welcome 2026. Hospital and rescue officials confirmed the casualties. The incidents transformed a night of joy into one of fear and injury for many.

The injured were quickly taken to several major hospitals. These included Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Civil Hospital Karachi, and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Medical staff worked to treat the numerous victims. Officials reported that six women and two young girls were among those hurt by falling bullets. The dangerous practice of aerial firing on New Year once again proved to have serious consequences.

The victims came from all age groups. An eight-year-old girl named Fareeha was injured near Safora. In Korangi’s Area Market, 11-year-old Mah Jabeen was also hurt. Other victims included 18-year-old Wajiha in Mahmoodabad and 40-year-old Aleena in Qayyumabad. The list of injuries highlights the widespread nature of the problem, affecting people randomly and indiscriminately.

Incidents were not confined to one area. Reports of injuries came from neighborhoods all over Karachi. These included Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Korangi, Lyari, and Manzoor Colony. The ages of those injured ranged from a 16-year-old boy to a 65-year-old man. The widespread aerial firing on New Year created a chaotic and unsafe environment for residents.

Authorities have repeatedly warned the public against this practice. They stress that firing guns into the air is a life-threatening act. Bullets fired up must come down, and they can cause severe injury or death. The events of this New Year serve as a stark reminder of these dangers. Every celebration is marred when innocent people are harmed. Public cooperation is essential to end this hazardous tradition and ensure everyone can celebrate safely.
