The seized phones included popular models such as iPhone 11, 12, 13, and 14. Two passengers were arrested in connection with the incident.

The incident occurred when a PIA flight from Dubai, which was originally bound for Peshawar, was diverted to Islamabad due to inclement weather. Customs officials discovered 139 phones in the possession of Mohammad Abbas and 111 phones from other passengers.

There have been allegations of collusion between passengers and Customs staff, allowing the clearance of expensive goods at various airports. It is claimed that such cases often go unnoticed by the department.
