A student of Government College University (GCU) Lahore, Faizan Ahmed Faiz, has completed an extraordinary 1,100-kilometre run from Lahore to Skardu in 21 days, overcoming intense heat, difficult roads and challenging mountain terrain along the way.
Faizan dedicated the endurance campaign to the martyrs of the Pakistan Army and received a warm welcome after reaching Skardu, where local residents celebrated his achievement by lifting him onto their shoulders.
The long-distance journey tested the young athlete’s physical endurance as he travelled through some of Pakistan’s most demanding terrain.
Faizan Overcomes Heat and Mountain Terrain
Faizan faced particularly intense heat during the early part of his journey, especially along the route between Lahore and Jhelum.
As the route moved towards the mountainous regions, the physical demands of the challenge increased further.
The stretch between Naran and Babusar Top proved particularly difficult because of the demanding terrain and elevation.
Despite these challenges, Faizan remained committed to completing the full 1,100-kilometre distance within his target of 21 days.
His journey required sustained physical effort over three weeks while navigating changing weather and road conditions across Punjab and northern Pakistan.
GCU Student Supported by Fellow Athlete
Faizan was also accompanied for part of the campaign by fellow GCU student Abdullah Shahzad, an Intermediate second-year student.
Abdullah supported the challenge by running 10 kilometres every day alongside Faizan.
His participation provided additional support during the demanding journey and helped maintain momentum as Faizan continued towards Skardu.
The campaign also received support from government and emergency services along different sections of the route.
Security and Rescue Teams Provide Assistance
According to the report, security personnel, district administration officials and Rescue 1122 provided security, logistical assistance and medical support to the athletes during the journey.
The support was particularly important as the route covered a long distance and included both populated areas and difficult mountainous stretches.
Medical assistance and logistical arrangements helped the athletes continue the endurance campaign while dealing with the physical demands of the journey.
The involvement of local authorities and emergency teams also provided additional support as Faizan travelled through different districts.
Faizan Receives Grand Welcome in Skardu
After completing the journey, Faizan received a warm welcome in Skardu.
Deputy Commissioner Hamza Murad and local residents were present to receive the young athlete.
The crowd celebrated his arrival by lifting him onto their shoulders, marking the successful completion of his 21-day endurance campaign.
The welcome reflected the local appreciation for the unusual sporting challenge and Faizan’s determination to complete the journey.
Student Credits Parents and GCU Vice Chancellor
Following the completion of the run, Faizan credited the encouragement and support of his parents and GCU Vice Chancellor for helping him complete the demanding journey.
He said the presence of university leadership at the finish line made the achievement particularly proud and memorable for him.
The university’s support and the encouragement he received throughout the campaign helped him remain focused on completing the challenge despite the physical difficulties involved.
Faizan’s achievement has also drawn attention to the potential of young Pakistani athletes to undertake endurance challenges across the country.
Faizan Plans Lahore-to-Karachi Run
Following the successful completion of his Lahore-to-Skardu campaign, Faizan is already planning another major endurance challenge.
According to a GCU spokesperson, the young athlete intends to run from Lahore to Karachi next year.
If carried out, the proposed route would represent another significant long-distance endurance challenge for the GCU student.
For now, Faizan’s completion of the 1,100-kilometre Lahore-to-Skardu run stands as the latest milestone in his endurance campaign.
His journey combined physical endurance with a message of dedication to the martyrs of the Pakistan Army, while also receiving support from fellow students, university leadership, local authorities, security personnel and communities along the route.
