The Federal Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection has set the Zakat Nisab for 2025 at Rs 179,689. According to an official notice sent to banks, Zakat will be deducted from savings, profit and loss-sharing accounts, and similar deposit accounts if their balance meets or exceeds this threshold on the first day of Ramadan 1446 AH. However, current accounts are exempt from this deduction.

The letter specifies that the Zakat deduction will occur on March 1 or 2, depending on when Ramadan begins, which is expected to be March 2, 2025, subject to moon sighting. Under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance 1980, any account with a balance below the Nisab limit on the first day of Ramadan will not have Zakat deducted.
