The Zakat Department has given approval for the introduction of a Widow Support Card, a new welfare initiative designed to offer financial assistance to widows facing economic hardship. Officials have confirmed that the program is expected to begin later this month as part of broader efforts to strengthen social protection measures for vulnerable families.
Under this scheme, widows who meet the eligibility criteria will receive monetary aid funded through Zakat contributions. The program aims to provide direct financial relief and help beneficiaries manage daily expenses more comfortably. Authorities believe the initiative will ease the financial burden on widows and improve their overall living conditions.
According to department representatives, each eligible widow will be provided Rs100,000 through the support card. In addition to the base amount, further assistance will be granted depending on family size. Widows with one child will receive an extra Rs25,000, while those with two children will be given an additional Rs50,000. This structure is intended to ensure that families with greater responsibilities receive increased support.
To implement the scheme effectively, the Zakat Department has allocated Rs4 billion for the project. The funds will be used to distribute payments and manage the program nationwide. Officials say the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to supporting widows and safeguarding the welfare of their children.
By launching the Widow Support Card, authorities hope to reduce financial stress, provide stability, and create better opportunities for families struggling to make ends meet. The program is expected to benefit thousands of households and serve as an important step toward strengthening social welfare services across the country.
