Yasir Hussain Criticizes PTV for 20 Years of Poor Dramas

Veteran actor Aurangzeb Laghari, who received the Pride of Performance award for his contributions to Pakistan’s entertainment industry, recently revealed in an interview that he had to switch careers due to a severe lack of acting opportunities. Multiple news outlets have reported that Laghari has now opened a furniture showroom in Lahore.

Following this news, actor and director Yasir Hussain expressed his concern on social media about the dwindling opportunities for drama actors outside Karachi. The “Karachi Se Lahore” actor took to Instagram, sharing the news and expressing his disappointment, “All the dramas are being made in Karachi and they don’t call anyone from Lahore to take part. PTV used to give work to all cities but they’re missing in action.” Hussain also criticized PTV for not producing quality dramas in the past 20 years, reminiscing about classics like “Tanhaiyaan,” “Dhuwan,” “Aangan Terha,” “Waris,” “Angar Wadi,” and “Guest House.”

In the same interview where Laghari discussed his career shift, he mentioned that the industry’s move to Karachi has significantly impacted his work opportunities. He noted, “All the principal offices for channels are in Karachi. There is little work in Lahore, so I work very less.” Laghari also pointed out that Punjabi actors don’t receive the same level of encouragement because they are not based in Karachi, aligning with Hussain’s remarks.

While Hussain voiced his frustrations, netizens had a different perspective. One Instagram user commented, “What is wrong with opening a furniture venture after being involved in the acting industry? It is never too late to change careers.” Another user noted, “So basically, he started his own business after a successful career in acting. Sounds like a win to me.” Among those who commented was actor Zhalay Sarhadi, who simply wrote, “More power to Sir.”
