World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus narrowly survived an Israeli airstrike at Yemen’s Sanaa airport.
Tedros revealed that he was present when the airport was hit, resulting in the deaths of two people. He described the damage to the air traffic control tower, departure lounge, and runway, just meters from where he and his team were.

The WHO chief was in Yemen to negotiate the release of UN officials held hostage by the Houthis and to assess the country’s health and humanitarian crisis. He stated that he was preparing to board a flight with UN and WHO staff when the attack occurred.
“One of our plane’s crew members was injured,” Tedros reported, adding, “At least two people were killed.” He confirmed the safety of his team and extended condolences to the victims’ families.
Meanwhile, Israel’s military claimed responsibility for targeting multiple Houthi-linked sites in Yemen on Thursday, including Sanaa airport and three western ports.
