WhatsApp to Discontinue Support for Older Smartphones in 2025

WhatsApp has announced that it will cease supporting older smartphones starting in 2025, as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure compatibility with updated operating systems. Beginning January 1, 2025, Android devices running KitKat (version 4.4) or earlier will no longer be able to use the app. This means users with outdated operating systems will either need to upgrade their devices or lose access to the popular messaging platform.

Many older Android models, including the Samsung Galaxy S3, Moto G (1st Gen), and HTC One X, will be affected. While some users may be able to update their devices to newer versions, many of these models no longer receive official software updates from manufacturers. This makes upgrading more difficult and risky, with potential for voiding warranties or damaging the device through unofficial methods.

Additionally, the change will also impact iPhones. From May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will stop working on iPhones running iOS versions earlier than 15.1. This includes models like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, which can only update to iOS 12.5.7.

These changes affect both the regular WhatsApp app and WhatsApp Business, marking a significant shift as the platform works to stay secure and functional on modern devices.
