WhatsApp is introducing new premium customization options for Android users. The features are part of an upcoming paid subscription plan.
In the latest beta version 2.26.6.1, WhatsApp is testing tools that allow users to change the app’s icon, theme, and branding color. These features are optional and available only to premium subscribers. Core messaging features remain free for all users.
Previously, WhatsApp tested a color customization feature on iOS. Users could change the main branding color, but it was never released. The company wanted more confidence that it would meet user needs. Now, the feature has returned with a new premium approach for Android.
One customization option lets users change the app icon. WhatsApp has designed 14 themed icons, including Aurora, Fluffy, Galaxy, Clay, Sparkle, and Neon. Seven single-color icons are also available, including brown, purple, orange, green, blue, pink, and monochrome. Users can also continue using the classic WhatsApp icon.
The second premium feature allows theme color customization. Users can select from 19 colors, including green, royal blue, violet, navy blue, coral, burgundy, teal, yellow, pink, red, and golden yellow. When a color is selected, interface elements such as tabs, buttons, and filters update to match the new theme.

WhatsApp has stated that these premium features are still in development. Some may change or be removed before the official release. The company will gradually roll out the features to beta testers first to gather feedback and ensure usability.
The new customization tools aim to give users more control over the app’s appearance. They also enhance accessibility for people with specific color preferences or visual impairments.
