The U.S. and European allies, including Britain, France, and Germany, will present the resolution to the IAEA’s board next week, warning of potential escalation to the United Nations if Iran does not cooperate. The decision follows a recent IAEA report accusing Tehran of a “general lack of cooperation” regarding its nuclear program.

Recent negotiations between Washington and Tehran, facilitated by Oman, have sought to curb Iran’s uranium enrichment in exchange for sanctions relief. However, the diplomatic push for the resolution signals growing frustration with Iran’s stance.

Two diplomats confirmed the plan to AFP, stating that the resolution aims to “increase pressure” on Iran ahead of a scheduled IAEA board vote on June 11 in Vienna.

Iran has dismissed the IAEA’s findings as politically motivated, alleging that Israel provided “unreliable and misleading information” to influence the report. The tensions unfold against the backdrop of heightened Middle East instability due to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

Iran maintains that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful energy purposes and denies pursuing atomic weapons.
