Vietnam Flood Death Toll Rises to 35 Amid Widespread Devastation

The death toll from the devastating floods in northern Vietnam has risen to at least 35, with dozens still missing. Torrential rains have caused rivers to overflow, triggering landslides and severe damage to infrastructure across several provinces.

Authorities confirmed that thousands of homes have been submerged, forcing mass evacuations as rescue teams continue searching for survivors trapped by floodwaters. Many villages remain cut off due to destroyed bridges and blocked roads.

Officials from Vietnam’s disaster management agency said the flooding has affected major agricultural regions, washing away crops and livestock, causing heavy economic losses. Relief efforts are underway to provide food and medical supplies to displaced families.

Rescue workers are battling harsh weather conditions as rainfall continues in mountainous areas, raising the risk of further landslides. Helicopters and boats have been deployed to reach isolated communities.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed emergency agencies to prioritize rescue and recovery while ensuring adequate shelter for those affected. The government has also appealed for public donations to support victims.

Experts attribute the worsening floods to climate change and deforestation, urging stricter environmental protections to reduce future disaster risks. Recovery is expected to take weeks as cleanup operations continue.
