KARACHI – A man accused in the recent UoK bus firing incident has been arrested after a targeted intelligence-based operation in Karachi.
The incident took place earlier this week near the University of Karachi (UoK), when a private vehicle blocked the path of a university shuttle service. The driver of the UOK shuttle honked to ask for passage, but the vehicle ahead did not move.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Bilal Ahmed, responded aggressively. He allegedly brandished a pistol from his car window twice. When the university bus driver honked a third time, the suspect fired two shots. One bullet hit the windshield of the bus.
Fortunately, none of the students on board were hurt during the bus fire in Karachi.
CCTV footage of the UoK bus firing incident quickly spread on social media, prompting swift action. The university administration filed a formal complaint and requested assistance from the paramilitary Rangers.
A special unit of the Rangers launched an operation in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area and successfully arrested the suspect. He has since been handed over to local police for further investigation. Authorities confirmed that legal proceedings are now underway.
Officials say strict action will be taken in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) carried out a raid in Karachi’s Manghopir area. During the operation, three militants belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed.
CTD officers said the raid followed intelligence about the presence of high-profile terrorists in the area. Among the dead was Zafran, a wanted terrorist with a bounty of Rs20 million. One of the others was identified as Qudratullah. The third militant’s identity is still being verified.
The CTD believes the group was involved in a previous attack targeting Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
