A woman with no formal flight training bravely landed a small plane in Bakersfield on Friday after her husband, the pilot, had a heart attack during the flight.
Kern County’s Director of Airports, Ron Brewster, remarked, “To my knowledge, this is a first. I’ve never witnessed anything like it in my career.”

The incident occurred aboard a twin-engine Beechcraft King Air 90, en route from Henderson, Nevada, to Monterey, when the emergency unfolded mid-flight.
