[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Tragically, a young man in Karachi, Salman Ahmed, has lost his life to the ‘brain-eating amoeba’ known as Naegleria fowleri.
The 21-year-old resident of DHA was admitted to a private hospital on June 18 after developing a fever. Despite receiving ventilator support, his health deteriorated, leading to his passing on July 6.
This latest fatality adds to the total number of deaths related to Naegleria, bringing the count to six. Four of these cases occurred in Karachi, while Quetta and Hyderabad reported one case each.
Investigations into Ahmed’s case revealed that he had bathed in the swimming pool of a private academy in DHA.

Subsequent analysis of samples collected from the pool showed low chlorine levels, indicating the need for further scrutiny.
Health experts have criticized the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board for maintaining inadequate chlorine levels in the city’s water supply.
They have also expressed concerns about the deteriorating sewage lines, which pose risks to water quality and safety.
Citizens are strongly advised to clean their underground water tanks and utilize chlorine tablets to ensure proper water disinfection.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
