Despite the United States abstaining from voting, the resolution received support from 14 countries. Introduced by Mozambique’s ambassador to the UN, Pedro Comissario Afonso, and backed by non-permanent members, the resolution outlines several demands.

These demands include:
1. Urging all parties to adhere to an immediate ceasefire during the month of Ramadan, leading to a sustainable long-term cessation of hostilities.
2. Requiring the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and ensuring humanitarian access to address their medical and other essential needs.
3. Mandating compliance with international legal obligations regarding the treatment of all detained individuals.
Over the span of more than five months, Israeli aggression in Gaza has resulted in significant casualties, with over 32,333 deaths reported in the occupied Palestinian territories. Additionally, the Gaza health ministry has recorded 107 fatalities in the past 24 hours alone, along with 74,694 injuries since Israel initiated airstrikes in Gaza on October 7.
In a related development, Israel criticized Spain, Malta, Slovenia, and Ireland for their proposed recognition of the state of Palestine, citing it as a concession to terrorism. According to Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, such recognition, particularly following recent attacks, sends a troubling message to Hamas and other Palestinian groups, potentially exacerbating regional tensions and hindering prospects for a peaceful resolution.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
