UN Chief Draws Motivation From Ramadan Fasting

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, to express solidarity with Palestinians, joined them in fasting and urged for an immediate ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian assistance in Gaza through the Rafah Border Crossing.

Addressing the media at the border between Egypt and Gaza, Guterres highlighted the grave situation in Gaza, where homes are destroyed, families mourn losses, and hunger affects the population.

Guterres, known for his deep respect for Muslim traditions, recounted his fasting experience during last year’s Ramadan and how it deepened his understanding of Islam and commitment to humanitarian unity.

Having fasted alongside displaced individuals in refugee camps during previous visits, Guterres described Ramadan as a revealing experience that illuminated the true spirit of Islam.

In an interview with UN News’s Arabic service, Guterres emphasized the significance of his annual tradition of visiting a Muslim-majority country during Ramadan.

Expressing concern for Palestinians’ struggle to find sustenance to break their fast amidst ongoing Israeli attacks and impediments to humanitarian aid, Guterres fasted in solidarity with them.

In a heartfelt gesture, Guterres assured Gazans, “You are not alone,” acknowledging the global empathy for their daily suffering under the Israeli attacks.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
