The United Kingdom has started issuing e-visas for Pakistani students and workers as part of its new digital immigration system. The move replaces physical visa stickers with electronic records, making the process easier and more secure.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the British High Commission in Islamabad. According to the statement, the UK visa policy for Pakistani students and workers will now provide a digital proof of immigration status. This means applicants will no longer need to submit their passports to get a visa sticker.

The change applies to most students and workers who plan to stay in the UK for more than six months.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott confirmed the update on X (formerly Twitter), stating the new system is part of an “enhanced” border and immigration process. The e-visa system is already being used for other nationalities and is now being extended to Pakistan.

This step also follows the recent signing of the UK-Pakistan Trade Dialogue Mechanism Agreement. Both countries also agreed to set up a Business Advisory Council to boost bilateral cooperation in trade and investment.

The e-visa is especially helpful for people holding a Pakistani passport. It simplifies the application process and improves visa verification during travel.

Pakistan is one of the major countries sending students and workers to the UK each year. The updated process will make it easier for applicants to manage their visa status online.

Travelers using the new e-visa must ensure they have updated email addresses and access to their digital immigration records before flying to the UK.

This digital shift is part of a broader UK strategy to fully modernize immigration by 2025.
