This move is part of Netflix’s broader effort to crack down on the common practice of password sharing. A customer service representative from Netflix confirmed to Khaleej Times that the new rule came into effect on 20th July.
According to the new regulation, only individuals residing in the same home can share passwords and access the same Netflix account. To enforce this policy, Netflix will monitor WiFi networks and IP addresses of devices logged into each account. This measure has also been implemented in India, where Netflix has reached out to customers sharing accounts outside of their households.

Prior to this, similar restrictions were already in place in more than 100 countries, including major markets like the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Mexico, and Brazil. Nonetheless, Netflix has introduced a new feature that allows paying customers to add an additional member from outside their household to their account, for an extra monthly fee.
This process has been made user-friendly, enabling members to transfer a profile to a new account while keeping their viewing history and personalized recommendations. Netflix initiated this crackdown on password sharing earlier this year in its largest market, the US, with the aim of increasing revenue.
