[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Under the leadership of Elon Musk, Twitter, now referred to as X, is continuing its downward trajectory, with the removal of features that he disagrees with, even if they are harmless.
Musk is now targeting the ability to block users on the platform, except for direct messages (DMs). Despite his previous indication of this intention, he argues that blocking doesn’t make sense and that muting should be the preferred option. The mute feature will remain for this reason.
Critics have pointed out Musk’s own frequent use of the block feature in the past.
The block feature has been a crucial tool for many users to protect themselves from harassment, serving as a fundamental safety mechanism. Removing it exposes users to a higher risk of encountering objectionable content they’d rather not see in their feeds and notifications.

Moreover, CNBC has highlighted how users often employ blocking to filter out advertisers and brands they wish to avoid. If this practice becomes widespread, it could potentially impact X’s financial performance significantly.
Earlier this year, X discontinued its free API, causing disruption to numerous third-party applications. Just a year before, when the platform was still called Twitter, it promoted third-party apps as solutions to combat harassment. However, due to API changes, platforms like Block Party have severed their ties with Twitter.
Musk also made headlines by announcing his intention to eliminate Light Mode on X, imposing Dark Mode on all users, claiming it’s better in every way. Fortunately, he didn’t follow through after facing backlash.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
