WhatsApp Enables Sending Full Quality Photos

Share

WhatsApp has historically had limitations on photo quality options, offering only “Standard” and “Best” quality settings that still involve compression to conserve data.

Fortunately, this constraint is now changing as WhatsApp introduces the ability to send “HD photos.” With this option, users can maintain the full resolution of the image, resulting in minimal compromise in quality. A new “HD” option will be available when sending a photo.

Once the photo is sent, the recipient will see an “HD” icon at the bottom left corner of the image, indicating higher size and better quality.

It’s worth noting that there’s a distinction between full resolution and compression, and WhatsApp hasn’t clarified this matter yet. While WhatsApp does apply some compression to the image, the difference in photo quality is negligible, which is generally not a concern

The “Standard” quality option will remain for users who want to save data or don’t prioritize high-quality images. The previous “Best” quality option in the app’s settings appears to have been removed.

This change is a positive step, as the previous “Best” quality feature was somewhat hidden in the app’s settings, leading many users to be unaware of its existence. With the new “HD” option, sending high-quality photos becomes more straightforward and visible to all users.

The “HD quality” feature has already been rolled out in Pakistan, so users should ensure their WhatsApp app is updated to the latest version to take advantage of it.
