Turkish President Erdogan Asks for Israel's Trial in War Crimes

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]ANKARA: On Tuesday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan conveyed to United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres that he believes Israel should face accountability in international courts for what he termed as war crimes committed in Gaza, as reported by the Turkish presidency.

Ahead of a scheduled UN Security Council meeting on Gaza set for Wednesday, Erdogan and Guterres discussed the international community’s expectations regarding Israel’s alleged unlawful attacks, the facilitation of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and efforts towards achieving lasting peace, according to the Turkish presidency.

In a statement, the Turkish presidency noted, “President Erdogan, during the call, emphasized that Israel is persistently violating international law, laws of war, and international humanitarian law while being observed by the international community. Erdogan asserted that Israel must be held responsible for the crimes committed in accordance with international law.”

Furthermore, Jordan’s King Abdullah expressed his view that Israeli aggression in Gaza and military operations in the West Bank go against human values and the right to life. The monarch, as reported by state media, reiterated his call for an end to the crisis and contended that the Israeli blockade on Gaza, which obstructed the entry of essential supplies such as medicine, food, and fuel, while also disrupting electricity supplies for weeks, amounted to war crimes.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
