Trump Set to Meet Qatari PM as UAE Summons Israeli Ambassador

A White House official confirmed that President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani in New York on Friday, just days after Israel targeted Hamas leaders in Doha. The official did not share details on the agenda or timing of the meeting.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates summoned Israel’s deputy ambassador in Abu Dhabi to protest the strike on Qatar, calling it a dangerous escalation. The attack, carried out on Tuesday, aimed to kill Hamas political leaders and drew widespread condemnation for undermining US-backed mediation efforts for a Gaza truce.

Trump later criticized Israel’s strike, labeling it a unilateral move that failed to serve either US or Israeli interests. Qatar, a key US ally, has played a central role in ceasefire negotiations, hostage talks, and post-conflict planning for Gaza. Al-Thani vowed that Israel’s actions would not deter Qatar from its mediator role.

The Qatari prime minister is also scheduled to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The UAE, which normalized ties with Israel in 2020, sharply denounced the Doha strike. Emirati Minister of State Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy summoned Israel’s envoy, condemning what she called a “blatant and cowardly attack” and warning that any aggression against a GCC state amounts to an attack on the Gulf’s collective security
