Pakistan has backed US President Donald Trump’s Gaza proposal, calling it an unexpected but vital step toward halting the bloodshed in Palestine.
Pakistan’s UN envoy, Asim Iftikhar, strongly supported the plan during a tense Security Council meeting, noting that it achieved what major global powers had failed to secure for months — a pause in fighting. He said Islamabad voted for the resolution, praising Trump’s role and stressing Pakistan’s priority: protecting Palestinian civilians and ensuring Israel’s full withdrawal from Gaza.
Iftikhar described the plan as “fragile but genuine hope,” adding that Pakistan supported Arab-led proposals and also contributed its own suggestions during closed-door negotiations.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s long-held stance, he said lasting peace hinges on a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital — a position he called non-negotiable.
The resolution passed with 14 votes in favour, while Russia and China abstained. The US envoy later thanked Pakistan, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey, and Indonesia for backing the initiative at a decisive time.
