Former US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have announced a new Gaza peace proposal following more than 65,000 deaths in the conflict.
At a Washington press conference, Trump unveiled a 20-point plan he described as a “big day” and a possible beginning of “eternal peace in the Middle East.” The framework includes the release of all hostages within 72 hours, an immediate ceasefire, and a phased Israeli withdrawal once Hamas’ military infrastructure is dismantled.
The proposal assigns Arab and Muslim nations a central role in Gaza’s demilitarisation and in forming a transitional administration, backed by international experts and the World Bank. A “Board of Peace” comprising Arab leaders, Israel, and global figures — including former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair — would oversee implementation.
Netanyahu backed the plan, saying it fulfilled Israel’s aims of freeing hostages, disarming Hamas, and preventing future threats, though he warned Israel would act alone if Hamas refused.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the initiative, praising Trump’s leadership, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for a two-state solution, and citing recent talks with Muslim leaders as constructive.
The Gaza war has already left over 65,000 dead, 160,000 wounded, and millions displaced, with UN investigators accusing Israel of genocide earlier this month.
