Truckers, Oil Tanker Drivers Announced Nationwide Wheel-Jam Strike

Pakistan is bracing for major travel disruption as the Goods Transport Association (GTA) announced a nationwide wheel-jam strike against heavy traffic fines and FIRs registered against truck drivers and loaders.

The strike, which gained momentum after talks with multiple transport groups, is expected to paralyze ports, highways, and key supply routes across the country.

GTA President Tariq Gujjar said the movement has widened, with oil tanker operators and local transporters also joining in. He added that operations at major ports will be halted from Monday evening, claiming government policies have left transporters with no alternative.

Industry representatives noted that thousands of cases have been filed under the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, with many vehicles seized in police stations, intensifying frustration among drivers. They urged the government to end the crackdown and take immediate steps to save transport businesses from collapse.

The nationwide strike is likely to cause severe inconvenience for commuters, disrupt supply chains, and create unprecedented gridlock as tensions continue to rise
