Trial Of Imran Khan, Qureshi In Cypher Case Resumes At Adiala

LAHORE – On Monday, the public trial of ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi resumed at Adiala Jail in the Cipher case.

Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain is overseeing the open court hearing, where the former PTI chief faces charges of leaking state secrets. Imran Khan is accused of disclosing cipher communication between Washington and Islamabad, which he linked to his removal from the premiership.

In the previous week, a Special Court held a hearing on the cipher case at Adiala Jail, with prosecutor Shah Khawar, Advocate Zulgarnain Abbas Naqvi, Special Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi, and the FIA’s legal team appearing before the court.

Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain noted an issue with the production order and indicated that the next date would be given. He emphasized that justice would not only be done but would also be seen to be done.

Earlier, the government issued a notification instructing authorities to conduct Imran Khan’s open trial inside Adiala jail due to security threats. The Islamabad High Court had previously declared Khan’s trial in jail as illegal and ordered a retrial in an open court.

Imran Khan, aged 71, was detained in early August and faces over 150 cases. Both he and his second in line were indicted in the cipher case, pleading not guilty.
