Tremors Reported in Swat for Second Day in a Row

Back-to-Back Earthquakes Shake Swat and Balochistan’s Zhob Region, No Casualties Reported

Swat/Zhob – May 30, 2025 — Tremors were felt for the second consecutive day in Swat and surrounding areas, as a moderate earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck the region on Thursday. According to the Seismological Centre, the earthquake originated at a depth of 97 kilometres, with its epicentre located in the Hindu Kush mountain range.

Fortunately, no loss of life or property damage has been reported from the affected areas.

In a separate incident, an earlier earthquake of 4.4 magnitude was recorded in Balochistan’s Zhob region, also confirmed by the Seismological Centre. The tremor had an epicentre approximately 60 kilometres southeast of Zhob and occurred at a depth of 40 kilometres beneath the Earth’s surface.

These consecutive seismic events highlight the geological activity along the Hindu Kush and Balochistan fault lines, known for frequent but usually low-to-moderate intensity earthquakes.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Director General of the Meteorological Department announced an early onset of the monsoon season in Pakistan. “The monsoon is expected to arrive about a month earlier than usual,” he said, adding that rainfall typically begins in July and August.

The public is advised to remain cautious and follow updates from the relevant authorities regarding both seismic activity and upcoming weather conditions.
