Tilak Verma Breaks World Record for Unbeaten Runs in T20 Internationals

Indian cricketer Tilak Verma has set a new world record in T20 International cricket, scoring over 318 runs in his last four matches without being dismissed. The 22-year-old left-hander extended his remarkable streak by scoring an unbeaten 72 runs during the second match of India’s ongoing home series against England, making him the first batter in the world to surpass 300 runs in T20Is without being dismissed.

Verma’s incredible run began with scores of 107 and 120 against South Africa, followed by a 19 and his recent 72 against England. This achievement eclipses the previous record held by New Zealand’s Mark Chapman, who had scored 271 runs without being dismissed. Verma’s consistency has surpassed other notable T20I batsmen, including Australia’s Aaron Finch (240 runs) and David Warner (239 runs).

In the same match, India successfully chased down 166 to win the first T20I against England by seven wickets in Kolkata. England set a total of 165-9, with Jos Buttler (45) and Brydon Carse (31) as their top scorers. Despite being reduced to 78-5, Verma’s brilliant 72* led India to victory, with support from Washington Sundar (26) and Abhishek Sharma (12). England’s bowlers, particularly Jofra Archer, struggled, with Archer conceding 60 runs. India will now aim to extend their series lead in the third match in Rajkot.
