The UK has announced supportive measures for international students, particularly those enrolling in courses starting in September 2024. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, speaking at the Embassy Education Conference in London, emphasized the UK’s dedication to assisting international students. She praised their courage in adapting to a new culture far from home and expressed pride that many choose the UK for their studies, promising full support to help them succeed.
Phillipson highlighted the graduate visa route, which allows students to stay in the UK for two years after graduation, or three years for PhD graduates, to work, live, and contribute to society. This initiative aims to provide graduates with opportunities to integrate into the UK workforce.

UK Ambassador to the UAE, Edward Hobart, also emphasized the importance of international students to the UK’s educational sector. He noted that students from the UAE bring valuable skills, experience, and diverse backgrounds to the UK, and that the graduate visa route offers them a chance to continue their studies and start their professional careers in the country.
The UK’s Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) reported receiving 3,690 applications from UAE students by January 31 for undergraduate courses beginning in September 2024, indicating growing interest in the UK’s educational opportunities.
Hobart also highlighted the Labour government’s reaffirmed commitment to the graduate visa route, which demonstrates the UK’s commitment to world-class education and fostering inclusive communities. This policy aims to enhance the UK’s attractiveness as a destination for international talent, offering students not only high-quality education but also the chance to integrate into the professional landscape post-graduation.
