The Sindh government is planning to construct an expressway connecting Karachi Port to the M9 Motorway

The Sindh government has announced a new project to construct an expressway connecting Karachi Port to Jam Sadiq Bridge, providing direct access to the M9 Motorway. This initiative is expected to reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in the region.

The project was approved during the 45th meeting of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Board, chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday. The Chief Minister directed the Local Government Department to finalize the plans for the expressway, with the name yet to be decided.

Starting at the Karachi Port Terminal, the expressway will extend to Jam Sadiq Bridge and link with the Malir Expressway. Chief Minister Shah highlighted that this new route will facilitate direct access for port traffic to the Motorway.

He also urged the PPP Board to expedite the proposal, warning that delays could lead the provincial government to fund the project independently.

The Local Government Department (LGD) has proposed constructing the Mauripur Expressway and ICI Interchange through a public-private partnership. This project aims to ease traffic congestion and manage heavy vehicle traffic from Karachi Port.

The plan includes an 8-kilometer expressway with dual lanes in both directions, featuring a toll plaza and weighbridge. Additionally, a 1-kilometer one-way interchange will be built at the ICI bridge. The proposal also includes interchanges at Lyari Flyover, Kakapir Flyover, and a planned elevated U-turn.
