A deadly terrorist assault struck the police checkpost at New Sabzi Mandi in Bannu, claiming the lives of two police personnel and injuring another in a brutal exchange of gunfire early Wednesday. The attack marks yet another grim reminder of the persistent security threats in the region.
According to a police spokesperson, the assailants began by detonating explosives at the checkpost’s main gate, completely destroying the entrance and initiating a violent confrontation. Armed terrorists then stormed the facility, triggering an intense gun battle with law enforcement officers.

The blast also toppled a nearby power transformer, plunging the entire New Sabzi Mandi area into darkness. The explosion and subsequent shootout caused extensive damage to the checkpost and surrounding commercial area, shattering windows and damaging storefronts.
Security forces quickly reached the scene and cordoned off the area. A search operation is currently underway to apprehend those involved. The incident has raised alarm over the increasing frequency and boldness of such attacks targeting security installations.
