Sweden Restarts Visa Services for Pakistani Citizens

Sweden has officially resumed its visa services in Pakistan, allowing Pakistani nationals to apply for short-term Schengen visas once again.

The announcement was made following Bilateral Political Consultations between Pakistan and Sweden, held in Stockholm on July 2, 2025. The talks focused on strengthening diplomatic and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this move is a positive development and reflects growing cooperation between Islamabad and Stockholm. The reopening of the visa facility is expected to make travel to Sweden easier for Pakistanis.

Starting July 7, Pakistani citizens can submit applications for short-stay Schengen visas at the Swedish visa center in Islamabad. These visas allow travel for up to 90 days for tourism, business, or family visits.

The Pakistani delegation at the Stockholm talks was led by the Additional Foreign Secretary (Europe). The Swedish side was represented by the Director General for Global Affairs from their Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Officials on both sides highlighted the importance of regular dialogue and continued collaboration. The decision to resume visa services was seen as a direct outcome of the mutual understanding reached during the consultations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan welcomed the decision and said it would promote closer ties and mutual understanding. They also emphasized that easier access to travel would help boost people-to-people connections.

Visa services were previously suspended, which had created challenges for Pakistani travelers. With the reopening, applicants no longer need to apply from outside the country.

Many travelers and businesspeople in Pakistan have welcomed the return of the Swedish visa facility. It is expected to help students, tourists, and professionals who seek short-term visits to Sweden.

This step by Sweden marks a new phase of cooperation and offers hope for further engagement between the two nations. The visa resumption signals improved bilateral relations and increased mobility for citizens of both countries.

Sweden’s decision to resume visa services in Pakistan comes as the Pakistani passport sees global improvement, now offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 32 countries. Read more about Pakistan’s enhanced travel freedom.
