Supermoon to Illuminate Night Sky Over Pakistan on December 4–5

Pakistan will witness a spectacular celestial event on December 4 and 5 as the final supermoon of 2025 lights up the night sky. Known as the “Cold Moon” for December, this supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the Moon’s closest approach to Earth, called perigee. As a result, it will appear noticeably larger and brighter than an ordinary full moon, creating a striking sight for sky-watchers across the country.

Astronomers explain that the Cold Moon will be particularly high in the sky due to the seasonal tilt of the Earth, making it appear more prominent. This supermoon is expected to look up to 14% larger and shine more brightly than a typical full moon. Its brightness and size make it a perfect opportunity for casual observers, photographers, and astronomy enthusiasts to enjoy a rare natural spectacle without the need for telescopes or special equipment.

The moon will rise around sunset on December 4 in most parts of Pakistan, remaining visible throughout the night and into the early hours of December 5. Cities with less light pollution will offer the clearest and most spectacular views, though even urban areas will see the moon’s glow clearly. Experts advise finding an open spot with a clear eastern horizon to witness the moonrise at its peak brightness.

This supermoon also coincides with the Geminid meteor shower, although the bright moonlight may make it slightly harder to see fainter meteors. Still, the combination of the supermoon’s size, brightness, and seasonal significance makes it an exciting event for observers of all ages.

Sky-watchers across Pakistan are encouraged to step outside after sunset on December 4 to enjoy this luminous lunar spectacle. Whether for photography, stargazing, or simply marveling at nature, the December 2025 supermoon promises to be a memorable event, marking the last major supermoon of the year.
