Punjab Government Struggles To Control Rising Sugar And Flour Prices

Prices of essential food items have sharply increased across Punjab, with sugar and flour becoming more expensive for daily consumers. The rising cost is putting extra pressure on household budgets, especially in Lahore and nearby areas.

In the last two weeks, the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag has increased by Rs300. The per-kilogram rate of flour has also jumped by Rs15, according to local traders. This hike is largely due to the rising cost of wheat, which has gone up from Rs2,300 to Rs2,800 per maund.

Sugar prices are also causing concern among residents. The current market rate for sugar is around Rs200 per kilogram. This is well above the official price of Rs175 set by the government. Despite this price cap, retailers continue to charge higher rates.

Citizens are growing frustrated over the lack of control on sugar and flour prices. Many are calling for immediate government intervention to prevent further increases. They argue that the rising prices are making basic food items unaffordable, especially for low- and middle-income families.

So far, there has been no clear response from the Punjab government regarding steps to stabilize prices. The gap between official rates and market prices continues to widen.

Consumers say the government must take urgent action to monitor prices and stop hoarding and black marketing. Strict enforcement of price controls is needed to bring relief to the public.

The consistent rise in sugar and flour prices reflects broader inflation issues affecting the province. Without swift government measures, the situation may worsen in the coming weeks.

The people of Punjab are now waiting to see whether officials will step in to ease the financial burden caused by these essential commodity hikes.
