The ongoing heatwave across South Punjab has sparked a significant increase in skin-related health issues, with dermatologists reporting a surge in patients suffering from fungal infections, heat rashes, and acne breakouts.
Dr Waqas Arqam Malik, a local skin specialist, attributed the spike to excessive sweating and blocked pores, which create ideal conditions for bacteria and fungi to thrive. He noted a sharp rise in cases of prickly heat, underarm infections, foot fungus, and rashes in skin folds.

If not addressed promptly, these conditions can lead to long-term problems such as skin pigmentation and chronic inflammation, Dr Malik warned. He stressed the importance of personal hygiene and advised people to shower twice daily, use antifungal powders, and avoid pore-clogging products like heavy creams and makeup.
To prevent heat-related skin issues, the doctor recommended wearing breathable cotton clothing, staying hydrated, and avoiding peak sun hours. Sunscreen use was also strongly advised for those venturing outdoors during the day.
