An anti-terrorism court in Lahore has acquitted singer Omar Malik in connection with the attack on Jinnah House during the violence that erupted on May 9 following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan. During the hearing, the judge questioned the investigation officer about Malik’s arrest 16 months after the incident, asking why no action had been taken during that time.

The judge also inquired why the accused had not been declared a fugitive by the court. After considering the arguments presented, the ATC judge ultimately acquitted Omar Malik of all charges in the case.

It is important to note that the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cyber crime wing had arrested Malik on October 10, and he was brought to court after completing a 10-day physical remand.

The incident in question involved a group of protesters who attacked and vandalized the Jinnah House, the official residence of the Lahore Corps Commander, on May 9, 2023, in response to Imran Khan’s arrest on corruption charges. Following the unrest, a crackdown was initiated against those involved in the vandalism, leading to numerous arrests across the country.
