Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has directed authorities to deploy drone surveillance in sensitive areas of Karachi and ordered the creation of a dedicated Drone Surveillance Unit to enhance monitoring and law enforcement capabilities.
During a high-level review meeting at the Central Police Office Karachi, Lanjar stressed the urgent modernization of the Special Branch, assigning it a frontline role in counterterrorism efforts aligned with contemporary security challenges.
The minister directed that Intelligence Reports (IRs), especially regarding border and high-risk zones, be made more actionable. He emphasized the development of proactive strategies based on intelligence to prevent potential threats.
Senior officials, including Javed Alam Odho, Inspector General of Police Sindh, briefed the minister on the current security situation, preventive measures, and potential risks across the province. A comprehensive security and counterterrorism plan was reviewed.
Lanjar ordered a coordinated approach to curb banned organizations, militancy, and sectarian activities, while calling for enhanced protection of key installations, mosques, madrasas, and imam-bargahs. He stressed foolproof security at all provincial entry and exit points.
Officers were instructed to remain active in the field with intensified intelligence-based operations, snap checks, patrolling, and reconnaissance monitoring. A full security audit of critical installations was also ordered, including recommendations for resources for the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), such as drones, modern vehicles, explosive detectors, and advanced security equipment.
The move signals a major push by the Sindh government to modernize policing infrastructure and strengthen counterterrorism preparedness across the province.
