Sindh Government to Provide Free Electric Scooters to Women

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced a major initiative to provide free electric scooters to women across the province. The move aims to promote women’s mobility, safety, and independence while encouraging the use of eco-friendly transportation.

Speaking at a public event, the chief minister said the provincial government is working on a detailed plan to distribute electric scooters in phases. The program will particularly benefit working women and students who rely on daily commuting in urban and rural areas.

“This initiative will make it easier and safer for women to travel for work and education,” Murad Ali Shah said, adding that the project aligns with Sindh’s broader goal of sustainable urban mobility.

Officials confirmed that the scooters will be distributed through a transparent registration system. Priority will be given to low-income women and those residing in areas with limited public transport. The government also plans to establish charging stations in major cities to ensure accessibility and convenience for new scooter users.

The initiative has received widespread appreciation from women’s rights groups and environmental activists. They praised the Sindh government for combining gender empowerment with environmental responsibility. Experts believe that the shift toward electric scooters will help reduce fuel costs, cut carbon emissions, and ease traffic congestion in cities like Karachi and Hyderabad.

The Sindh CM emphasized that his government remains committed to launching inclusive and sustainable development programs. He said the introduction of electric scooters for women will not only empower them socially and economically but also mark a step toward a cleaner and greener future.

Public reactions on social media have been overwhelmingly positive, with many users calling it a “progressive and practical” step. Women from different cities expressed hope that such initiatives would continue to expand, making public spaces safer and travel more affordable.

The government has been actively addressing civic issues and consumer challenges in Karachi. Earlier this week, the Karachi Commissioner took notice of soaring tomato prices, ordering stricter market monitoring to stabilize costs showing that the provincial administration is taking a comprehensive approach to improve citizens’ daily lives.

As planning for the scooter project moves forward, the Sindh government is expected to reveal further details, including the number of vehicles to be distributed and the timeline for rollout.
