The Nawaz Sharif Flyover on Adiala Road, along with two underpasses on Mall Road and an underground pedestrian walkway, is nearing completion and is expected to be inaugurated later this month.
Meanwhile, construction is set to begin soon on a flyover and underpasses at Kachehri Chowk, as well as underpasses at Qasim Market, Race Course, and Charing Cross. Authorities plan to take advantage of the ongoing summer school vacations to accelerate work on these projects.

Key Projects Ready for Inauguration
The Nawaz Sharif Flyover at Khawaja Corporation Chowk, built at a cost of Rs2.3 billion, is in its final stages. Initially scheduled for inauguration on June 3, the project is now expected to be opened by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on June 30.
On the same day, the CM is also likely to inaugurate:
- Two underpasses at Flashman Hotel Chowk and Mall Plaza Chowk on Mall Road.
- An underground pedestrian walkway near AFIC.
The total cost of these projects amounts to Rs4.388 billion.
Upcoming Infrastructure Developments
To further ease traffic congestion, the government has approved:
- Underpasses at Qasim Market, Race Course Chowk, and Charing Cross – three of the busiest intersections on Mall Road and Peshawar Road.
- A major expansion of Kachehri Chowk, including two flyovers and three underpasses, with an estimated budget of Rs8.5 billion.
The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has been directed to relocate underground utilities (electricity, gas, water, and sewage lines) to facilitate construction.
Signal-Free Corridor in Sight
Once completed, these projects will create a signal-free corridor from Adiala Road to Motorway Chowk. An underpass at Golra Mor has already been completed and is operational. All projects are funded by the Punjab government and executed by the Communications and Works (C&W) Department.
Education Department Releases Funds
In a separate development, the Punjab Education Department has allocated Rs464.5 million for operational expenses of public schools in Rawalpindi Division. A total of Rs4.58 billion has been released province-wide to cover utility bills and operational costs for over 43,000 schools in the final quarter of the fiscal year.
These infrastructure and educational initiatives aim to enhance mobility and public services in Rawalpindi.
