A scorching heatwave swept through South Punjab over the Eid holidays, pushing temperatures to a sweltering 45 degrees Celsius and leading to unusually quiet streets and deserted public spaces. What is typically a lively season of outdoor celebrations saw many residents opting to stay inside to escape the oppressive heat.
Salman Amjad, a local resident, described the discomfort: “It’s just too hot. We don’t even feel like stepping out of the house.” The Meteorological Department has forecast the heatwave to continue until June 12, with no immediate relief in sight, forcing many families to adjust their Eid plans.

Many who had returned home for the festivities chose indoor gatherings instead. Asim from Nawabpur noted, “After eating meat, the heat feels even more unbearable.” Health experts cautioned that the combination of high temperatures and heavy Eid meals could lead to dehydration and fatigue, urging people to stay hydrated and limit sun exposure.
Local authorities confirmed a sharp decline in visitors at parks, recreational areas, and tourist sites, which remained largely empty throughout the holiday period. Residents were advised to take necessary precautions to cope with the ongoing heatwave.
