SBP Governor Highlights Economic Recovery, Lowest Inflation in Nine Years

Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Jameel Ahmad, has announced that Pakistan’s inflation rate in the fiscal year 2025 has dropped to its lowest level in nine years. At the launch of the Women Entrepreneur Finance Code (WeFinance Code), he credited tight monetary and fiscal measures for steering the country out of recession and towards economic stability.

Ahmad highlighted that improvements in the external sector, including a surge in remittances and exports, have contributed to a current account surplus. He noted that these factors, combined with policy consistency, have stabilized the foreign exchange market and pushed SBP’s reserves past the $14 billion mark.

The SBP governor also pointed out that economic activity is gaining momentum and private sector growth is enhancing both competitiveness and quality. He stressed that fiscal discipline and coordinated policies have created an environment conducive to sustainable development.

Expressing gratitude to the Asian Development Bank for its support of the WeFinance Code, Ahmad said Pakistan must learn from previous missteps and capitalize on the current recovery phase. “We must not repeat the mistakes of the past and should use this momentum to build a resilient and self-sustaining economy,” he added.
