Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed has hinted at the possibility of retiring soon, suggesting that his playing career may soon come to an end. During a media interaction ahead of the Champions T20 Cup, Sarfaraz made a sarcastic remark, saying, “Look, as far as my career is concerned, I think I don’t need to say anything. Nothing is left. I know what you are waiting for and it will happen soon.”
Sarfaraz, who made his international debut for Pakistan in 2007, has enjoyed a distinguished career. He has played 54 Test matches, 117 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 61 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), amassing 6,164 runs. His career includes six centuries and 32 half-centuries. Sarfaraz’s most notable achievement was leading Pakistan to their first-ever ICC Men’s Champions Trophy title in 2017. Under his leadership, Pakistan also set a record of 11 consecutive T20I series victories.
However, Sarfaraz’s recent appearances for Pakistan have been limited. He was dropped from the Test side after his last match in 2023, where he scored just seven runs. His most recent white-ball appearance was in November 2021, and he has not featured for the national team since then.
Though Sarfaraz’s time with Pakistan may be coming to a close, he remains involved in the game. He is set to mentor the Faheem Ashraf-led Dolphins in the upcoming Champions T20 Cup, indicating that while his playing career may be nearing its end, his connection to cricket will continue in a different capacity.
