Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has been assigned new responsibilities within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Sources confirm that Sarfaraz has been appointed in charge of the Pakistan Shaheens and Pakistan Under-19 teams. He will manage all aspects of both squads, including coordination with coaches, squad management, and arrangements for domestic and international tours. He will also accompany the teams on their tours as part of his role.
Previously, Sarfaraz served as Team Director for Quetta Gladiators in PSL 10, where he discussed the challenges of moving into coaching. The wicketkeeper-batsman led Quetta for eight years, playing 80 matches since the PSL began in 2016, and participated as a player in the most recent edition.
In an interview with PCB Digital, Sarfaraz said the new role is “exciting” and an opportunity to learn, drawing on his experience as a mentor for the Dolphins in two Champions Cup events. He acknowledged the difficulty of transitioning from player to coach, emphasizing the need to evolve skills and adapt to new responsibilities.
Reflecting on Quetta Gladiators’ 2019 PSL triumph, Sarfaraz described it as a memorable achievement, alongside reaching the finals and playoffs for three consecutive years.
