‘Sardaar Ji 3’ Faces 40% Revenue Hit After India Release Dropped Amid Backlash

The producers of Sardaar Ji 3 have revealed that the film suffered an estimated 40% revenue loss after it was voluntarily pulled from release in India due to rising political tensions and social media backlash. The decision followed the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which reignited cross-border sensitivities between India and Pakistan.

Speaking to an Indian TV channel, producer Gunbir Singh Sidhu confirmed that the film’s release was withheld to avoid inflaming public sentiment. “Though the film was shot in the UK before the tensions, the situation changed after the attack. We didn’t want to provoke emotions or face further trolling,” Sidhu explained.

Starring Diljit Dosanjh, Neeru Bajwa, and Pakistani actor Hania Aamir, Sardaar Ji 3 faced mounting criticism over Aamir’s casting. The backlash intensified after public statements by Pakistani actors—including Hania Aamir—condemning India’s Operation Sindoor. Indian film bodies called for a boycott, and Sidhu admitted that the controversy significantly impacted the film’s domestic reach.

Sidhu compared the film’s performance to his previous hit Jatt & Juliet 3, noting that around 40% of its earnings came from the Indian market. “Without that chunk, we’ve effectively taken a big financial hit,” he said, despite the film’s solid performance overseas in markets like Canada, the UK, and Australia.

While neither Dosanjh nor Aamir have publicly commented, co-star Neeru Bajwa unfollowed Aamir on Instagram and removed related content, further fueling speculation about internal tensions amid the controversy.
