Samsung has regained the top spot in global smartphone shipments for the July–September quarter, according to market research firm Omdia. The company shipped 60.6 million devices, securing a 19% share of the market — a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Apple ranked second with 56.5 million shipments and an 18% market share, reflecting 4% year-on-year growth. Xiaomi followed in third place, delivering 43.4 million units for a 14% share, though its performance in China weakened after subsidy cuts.
Transsion — the parent company behind Infinix, Tecno, and iTel — claimed fourth position with 28.6 million shipments and a 9% global share, recording the strongest annual growth among the top players at 12%. Vivo came in fifth with 28.5 million smartphones shipped and matched Transsion’s 9% share, posting 5% growth YoY.
Samsung’s lead was driven by demand for its latest foldable lineup — the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 — alongside popular mid-range models like the Galaxy A07 and A17. Apple also saw strong traction from the entry-level iPhone 17, which analysts say offers a better price-to-value balance.
Overall, the smartphone industry shipped 320.1 million units in Q3, up 3% year-on-year. Growth was strongest in emerging regions including Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East, while North America and China continued to slow. Omdia noted that budget smartphones under $100 and premium devices over $700 fueled most of the recovery, while mid-tier models struggled due to rising costs.
