Rupert Sanders’ upcoming reboot of “The Crow” has made a crucial decision to enhance set safety by opting for Airsoft guns over real firearms. This move demonstrates Sanders’ dedication to preventing the kinds of tragedies that have marred past film productions, notably the accidental shooting of Brandon Lee during the 1994 adaptation and the fatal incident involving Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust” in 2021.

Filmed in 2022, Sanders’ rendition of “The Crow” stars Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven, who embarks on a dark journey of vengeance. Prioritizing safety above all, Sanders insisted on using only non-firing weapons to eliminate the risk of on-set accidents. “We had no functioning firearms on set,” Sanders stated. “All our props were either Airsoft or rubber replicas without any firing capabilities.”
This decision aligns with a growing trend in the film industry to remove real guns from production sets. In the wake of the “Rust” tragedy, many actors and filmmakers, including Dwayne Johnson, have committed to using rubber guns to ensure safety. Sanders’ adherence to this practice, even with budgetary limitations, highlights the industry’s increasing emphasis on safeguarding the well-being of everyone involved in filmmaking.
