Rawalpindi Development Authority Halts New Housing Projects Across Five Tehsils

ISLAMABAD – In response to the increasing trend of housing developments encroaching on agricultural land, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has imposed a ban on new private housing schemes in Rawalpindi, Taxila, Kallar Syedan, Gujarkhan, and Kahuta.

The RDA stated that this measure aims to support sustainable development and safeguard valuable agricultural land. The ban will remain effective until the RDA’s Pre-Urban Site Development Plan receives full approval.

To encourage environmentally conscious urban growth, the RDA has instructed developers and investors to halt land acquisitions for new housing projects in these areas. Additionally, developers are prohibited from subdividing land for investor-focused housing schemes without prior authorization from the authority.

The Pre-Urban Site Development Plan will designate specific zones, such as agricultural areas, residential districts, green spaces, and environmentally sensitive regions.

The RDA also plans to impose strict penalties on those violating the ban, which may include hefty fines, legal action, and the demolition of unauthorized structures.

The RDA reiterated its commitment to balancing urban expansion with environmental preservation, emphasizing eco-friendly residential development while protecting fertile agricultural land and ecologically sensitive areas.
