In an interview with a local media outlet, Nasim Akhtar, the head of the infectious diseases hospital at PIMS, disclosed that they had received two patients, one of whom succumbed six months after admission.

She highlighted that the diagnosis for the deceased patient was confirmed through biopsy and culture. However, she stressed the necessity for Urinary Histoplasma Antigen tests to enhance the diagnosis of more cases.

Additionally, Professor Nasim mentioned the successful treatment of another patient with anti-fungal medications. Explaining histoplasmosis, she noted that the fungal infection prospers in soil with elevated levels of bird or bat droppings.

Expressing the challenge of treating patients without a definitive diagnosis, Nasim Akhtar underscored the importance of diagnostic facilities to implement targeted therapies and save lives.

Contrastingly, Dr. Naseem Salahuddin, the infectious diseases expert at the Indus Hospital, reported no instances of Histoplasmosis from experts nationwide. He emphasized the regional variation of fungi, parasites, or bacteria, citing Aspergillus and candida as more prevalent fungal infections in certain areas.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
