Rare Blackbucks Stolen from Jhang Wildlife Park, Probe Launched

Three rare female blackbucks were stolen from Jhang Wildlife Park during the night between Wednesday and Thursday, raising serious concerns about the park’s security and management. The theft was discovered the next morning when staff arrived to feed the animals and found the enclosure empty.

Following the incident, the Director General of Wildlife ordered the formation of a two-member inquiry committee to investigate the case. An FIR has been registered, and a departmental inquiry is underway, led by senior officer Dr. Misbah Sarwar. The committee is expected to submit its findings within three days.

Officials stated that those responsible will face strict legal action, and any park staff found negligent will also face disciplinary measures. The situation is further complicated by the fact that senior park staff were away for training, and interim duties were being handled by workers from the Green Pakistan Programme, whose contracts had expired just days earlier.

The park originally housed seven blackbucks. While officials confirm three females are missing, some sources allege that four blackbucks, including one male, were actually stolen. Each blackbuck is valued at around Rs. 200,000, making the theft a significant financial and conservation loss.
